SPECIALIZED CASELOADS

Domestic Violence

Deputies work with the Courts, police, victim advocates and other community resources to provide services to domestic violence cases and to comply with the California Penal Code Section 1203.097.

Our goal is to reduce incidents of domestic violence by providing a variety of special services.

To meet our goals of batterer accountability, victim safety and compliance with legal mandates, the Department:

Has dedicated domestic and family violence caseloads and designated staff
Classifies all domestic violence cases or cases with domestic violence conditions for maximum level of supervision
Provides extensive training for staff supervising domestic violence caseloads
Provides resource information and collects court-ordered restitution for victims
Works in collaboration with community-based organizations and actively participates on the Alameda County Family Violence Council
Approves and monitors batterers' intervention programs, pursuant to Penal Code 1203.097 and 1203.098, to serve the culturally diverse population of the County

NOTICE TO PARTICIPANT: If you have been placed on Court Probation, you do not have a Probation Officer. Contact one of the listed Batterers’ Treatment providers to arrange for treatment. If you have an assigned Probation Officer, contact him/her for a referral to a Batterers’ Treatment Program nearest your residence, or place of employment

APPROVED BATTERERS’ TREATMENT PROGRAMS

The agencies or programs listed have been approved by the Alameda County Probation Department to provide Batterer Treatment Services. The list is subject to periodic changes and will be updated as needed. Many of the listed agencies and programs provide treatment services for men and women who batter. Where noted, class and treatment sessions are available in Spanish. Some listed agencies and programs accept a limited number of fee waiver referrals from Court. Please contact the program to confirm that a fee waiver slot is available.

Domestic Violence FAQs

When you are sentenced, the court should provide you with an Alameda County certified Batter’s Treatment Programs (BIP) list. You may contact any one of those programs with your questions and request enrollment.
If you did not receive the certified Batter’s Treatment Program list while in court, you may request a copy at any one of the adult probation offices (the addresses are listed below). You can also find the list under the “forms” section of the Alameda County Probation website.

If you reside in another county, please contact their probation department to find out what agencies have been certified in that county. You may contact any of the approved programs with questions and for classes.

It is your responsibility to attend and pay for classes. Please contact the program regarding a reduction of fees and/or tell the Judge about your financial trouble at the next progress report.

No, California state law requires you to attend for 52 consecutive weeks (PC 1203.097).

You can obtain a list at any of the Adult Probation offices. You may also, download a copy from this site under the forms section.

Your assigned Deputy Probation Officer (DPO) will be documented on the green sheet you were handed in court after your sentencing hearing. If you do not have the green sheet or the DPO’s name is not on the sheet you can call the probation department to obtain the DPO’s name. Our office phone numbers are:

Even though the court instructs you to contact the probation department within 3 days, it almost always takes more than 3 days for your case to be assigned to the deputy probation officer who will be supervising your case. Your deputy probation officer will receive your case between 7-10 days after sentencing. If you have not heard from your DPO, it is your responsibility to get in touch with him or her. If you call reception (phone numbers listed above) after this amount of time, they should be able to tell you who your supervising DPO will be.

The judge is the only one who can change a no contact order to a no harassment order. In domestic violence cases, the Judge will usually wait until the client has started domestic violence counseling and shown that they will abide by their conditions of probation, before he or she is willing to modify the no contact order. Then, both the victim and the defendant must agree that they want the no contact order modified.

The best way for this to happen is for the victim to contact the sentencing Court and to express their desire for the no contact order to be lifted. It is also helpful if the victim submits a statement to the courts in writing. It is then the Judge’s decision to make an order one way or the other.

The victim cannot be in violation of the no contact order. Even if the victim contacts the client, the client is still required to have no contact with the victim and can be arrested and/or have their probation violated if they do not terminate a phone call or walk away.

Sex Offender

Sex offenders are required to register annually within 5 days of his/her birthday, or more frequently if transient or homeless. Pursuant to provisions of Section 290 of the Penal Code, the duty to register ranges from 10 years to lifetime. Minimum registration periods are determined by the California Department of Justice.

Whenever a registrant moves, they must notify both the jurisdiction into which they move and the jurisdiction in which they last registered.

In an effort to improve service delivery to Sex Offender clients and for the protection of the community, the Probation Department provides intensive supervision and utilizes community resources to reduce illegal behaviors of sexual offenders.

All persons on probation for sex offenses receive the highest level of supervision.

High-risk Caseload

Adult Services has two High-Risk Caseloads that currently serve young men ages 18-24 that reside in 94601, 94607 and 94621 zip code areas.

Our goal is to protect the community, provide comprehensive services to clients, reduce recidivism and substance abuse among probationers by enforcing conditions of Probation through education and use of community resources and rehabilitative services.
