Juvenile Institutional Officer Associate (JIO-A) Recruitment

The Alameda County Probation Department needs hundreds of applicants all year long to fill critical staffing at our facilities, Juvenile Hall, and Camp Sweeney, located in San Leandro.  We are very pleased that you are here and hope that you find the information on this page useful!  Alameda County, and the Probation Department specifically, is a great employer and we offer our employees a great salary and benefits package, flexible hours, and meaningful work.

At the core of juvenile facilities are our Juvenile Institution Officers, who are the key professionals tasked with overseeing the facility and ensuring the well-being and safety of the youth. You do not have to have any existing experience! New officers undergo basic academy training from state or local agencies upon being hired, and can expect to receive annual, in-service training throughout their careers. Our facilities’ staff have the opportunity to help youth every day to turn their lives around, help youth develop insight, change their behavior and develop goals for themselves that they can pursue when they return home.
