Good afternoon, My name is Marcus Dawal Interim Chief Probation Officer for the Alameda County Probation Department. I would like to welcome and thank you for taking a step toward an opportunity for a great career.

We are thrilled to open the position of Juvenile Institutional Officer for recruitment.

As a JIO, you get to work with, counsel, guide, and develop at-promise youth. If you have always wanted to work with youth and have passion and compassion for the young people in Alameda County, this may be the perfect opportunity for you.

Having worked for the Probation Department for close to four years not only am i tasked with providing care for youth, but also serve as an informal counselor. I want the public to know that should you get this job, they should know that the primary function of the job is being on the front lines with the youth of Alameda County who have committed serious crimes.

What drew me to this field growing up was that i grew up in a negative environment, I saw a lot of bad things growing up and I wanted to make a difference in my community.

We really care about these kids and look at them and treat them as we would our own families. We play games with them, coach them in sporting events as well as take them to sporting events while in our camp environment. We take them on all types of outings including movies, plays, camping, the beach, hikes and the list goes on.

Hi, my name is Brian Ford, and I’m the Assistant Chief for the Alameda County Probation Department.

I have oversight of all of our juvenile operations, and as part of my job I oversee the Juvenile Justice Center, which is a lock facility where it's our goal to provide young people with treatment and growth opportunities.

Within our facilities as well as in the community, we also provide resources and services to both youth and their families. We utilize evidence-based tools to address the needs of our youth, while paying very close attention to any trauma, development and or learning disabilities that youth may have. We are entrusted with the safety and well-being of youth in our care and we need caring people like you to help us do that.

So while we're happy to invite folks like you to come work here with us, I also want you to know you have an amazing opportunity to promote in this agency to work with both youth and the adult populations.
