Emergency Shelter/Interim Housing Grant
The County of Alameda will invest up to $3.5 million for local Emergency Shelter/Interim Housing Providers to maintain the current inventory of emergency shelter/interim housing beds serving unhoused residents of Alameda County through FY 24-25 by overcoming the additional costs of operation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
One-time grants will be awarded to eligible not for profit Emergency Shelter/Interim Housing Providers located in the County of Alameda. All awards will be distributed by the Alameda County Social Services Agency based on the following criteria:
- Currently funded by Alameda County to provide free emergency shelter/interim housing to unhoused Alameda County residents; and,
- Operate emergency shelters/interim housing in accordance with the established, Board of Supervisors adopted countywide shelter standards; and,
- Emergency shelter/interim housing beds operated by the organization are at risk of closure in FY 24-25 due to a funding shortfall, as demonstrated by submission of a composite program budget that identifies all associated operating costs and revenues.
Note: There are NO exceptions to the above criteria. One grant application in an amount not to exceed the funding shortfall will be permitted per non-profit organization.
To be considered to receive an Emergency Shelter/Interim Housing Grant, we request the following:
All eligible providers will be required to complete the County of Alameda Emergency Shelter/Interim Housing Grant Application to verify that they have been in operation prior to January 2021 and are currently providing shelter/interim housing to those in need in the County of Alameda. The following documents must be submitted with the completed application:
- W-9
- IRS form 501(c)3
- First page of 990 tax return showing that the purpose of the entity is to provide emergency shelter/homelessness services for those in need
- Organization’s budget
It is the sole responsibility of the Alameda County Social Services Agency to determine eligibility for this grant. The Alameda County Social Services Agency reserves the right to verify the information provided at any time.
The application will open the week of July 8, 2024 through August 30, 2024, or until all available funding is encumbered.
